DNA Racing

Speed.  Rivalry.  Ferocity.  Camaraderie.

2012 brings many new additions as well as new aspirations.  DNA Racing was created to bring a fresh approach to the cycling scene within the state of Oklahoma and throughout the region.  2012 is only to be our third season and with the newly established DNA Development Team and partnerships with new and renewing sponsors we couldn't be more excited for what the future holds.

We realize that strong character and teamwork builds strong organizations AND strong families in the community.

This year we had the opportunity to send a couple of our DNA Racing crew to Speed Week.  Brother Phillip & composite team member Justin Reddell loaded up and headed to Georgia.  Speed Week consists of seven races in nine days and takes place in Georgia & South Carolina.  Check out their pics, as if them getting to race wasn't enough to be jealous of...horses, beaches, & fried chicken make it even worse.

Going into Joe Martin I was well… worried. Every person I had mentioned the race to had the same response: “Nick, that’s a climber’s race… I am NOT going” and on it went… The climbs, the climbs, the climbs, run away! I was a bit intimidated but I tried not to think about it all and just focus on making it my own race. The first stage started with an uphill 2.6 mile time trial and I did my best to warm up slowly on the surrounding roads around the start line.

Texas’s oldest criterium is also one of its fastest.  Speed, cornering, and positioning are put to the test with no regard for the rider lacking in even one of these principles.  It was the most demanding 2 days of criterium racing we’ve competed in this year.  My experience, as a Cat 4, was highlighted by a rollercoaster of ups & downs.

Her name is Shenandoah Butterworth aka Vern Binger aka my brother Will's Dodge Sprinter Van and I am instantly in love with her.  She might be a little tall, wide (7'x5'6"), and well worn by a life on the road, but this only makes her more attractive.  I have been in Boulder, Co helping Will convert the cargo van into his new home.  It's been a slower process for him than anticipated, but he is making progress and hoping to move out of his apartment and permanently into the van by the end of the month.  Living rent free is his dream.
